TOWER OF BABEL
Art Direction: Paul Sheriff
Tower of Babel is an interactive set of children’s learning blocks, expanded into a deck of cards. This sci-fi edition is aimed for children around the ages of 6-9. The set individually examines 16 planets and/or space objects, introducing kids to space facts and imagery in a retro style. To keep it interesting for this intended target audience, the block set also doubles as a puzzle. The bottoms of each block all make one large puzzle, while the tops additionally create 4 mini puzzles.
This illustration and typographic approach was inspired by vintage space and robot toy packaging. The logo and typography were envisioned to be expressive and reflect a retro 60s impression. Implementing a primary color palette that emphasizes the red and yellows was a helpful way of orchestrating this. I also wanted to show this through using a gritty texture. This was an aspect I really focused on to drive this theme home.
